Name:
Redstar (Formerly Rednight)
Age:
45 moons ((7 lives))
Gender:
Tom
Clan:
TimberClan
Rank:
Leader
Appearance:
Redstar is one handsome tom cat. He has the most extraordinary pelt as well. It is such a dark ginger, mixed with some brown, that it looks almost a perfect dark, muddy red, like clay. His pelt gives him the first half of his name. It is a mostly solid color, but he has some darker bit on his tail and face, as well as one darker forepaw. The darker fur on his face is patterned like two stripes coming from the corners of his mouth and ending at the outside corner of each eye. He then has a couple dots on his forehead, and splattered around his neck. His tail has a dark stripe, which started under his shoulders, at the center of his upper back, and continues to the tip of his tail. There are a few more dots on his underbelly. He blends into the forest well.
His body is built very muscular, having wide paws, long claws, and hard chest and shoulder muscles. His legs are also slightly longer than normal in length, which made him perfect for the Voyage of the Winding Forest. He was also small as an apprentice, with long legs, which made it easy to runs fast and duck under and around things furing his trial. He is very lithe, long and thin, which also helps being a TimberClanner. His wide paws make it harder to get hurt on his paws, since they are also rock hard. This attribute is much like a ScarClanner.
Finally, Redstar's eyes. They are a strange, deep midnight blue color. They are so dark that some cats cannot distinct his pupils from the rest of his eyes. This is what gave him his warrior name, Rednight, -night for his eyes, and also his personality, which I will come to later. Redstar has always been proud of his unusual and handsome pelt and eyes, and no cat knows that he is ashamed of his wide paws, because they show his true heritage, which no cat but him, his brother, and his dead mother know of.
Personality:
Redstar is a creepy cat. Because of his heritage, some cats comment that he is almost ScarClanner like, almost emotionless, which, like the ScarClan Overseer Tigerfrost, he was born with and had no need to teach himself. Of course, being a TimberClanner, he truly didn`t need to teach himself. He didn't even need the attribute, and it angers him, because he is afraid cats will figure out about where his father really came from.
He is also a very kind and gentle tom, but he will not tolerate rule breakers and trouble makers. It is easy to anger him, but he doesn't hold grudges. He has a cool personality, like he wants cats to look up to him and see him as a proud warrior, and then leader. This attributes to the -night in his warrior name. Cats really do think that he is a good, proud leader, just as he should be for their Clan. No cat would dare tell him he wasn't a good leader.
Redstar is also very good at hiding himself, and this helped his Trial. Redstar can simply disappear, and reappear somewhere else moments later. Most cats are used to his suddenly appearing at their side, but others never get over it. This is the other reason his warrior name was -night. He is like a shadow of night, only doing what he wants, hiding himself when he wants to be hidden. When he was an apprentice, it really freaked his mentor out! And when he was Deputy, it took cats a while to get used to him appearing near them and giving them orders. Apprentices are always very, very careful in TimberClan because they're afraid that Redstar will appear if they are goofing off, and since he's so stern and strict, he would definately punish them.
Past:
It all started with the forbidden love of a TimberClan she-cat called Kestrelwing and a ScarClan tom called Wildfoot. The kits were not supposed to be born, but Kestrelwing did become pregnant, and Wildfoot, who was big and muscular, black, with extremely large paws, was worried about the future of his kits in TimberClan; what if they had too many ScarClan attributes?
On a stormy night towards the end of Leaf-bare, the current medicine cat, who happened to be this she-cat's sister Hazelfall, was soked on her way to the Nursery to help the she-cat called Kestrelwing give birth to three kits. The first and smallest kit was a she-cat named Leafkit, for she was a dark brown tortoiseshell. She was hopeless; when she was born it took Hazelfall too long to get air into the little she-kit's lungs, and Leafkit was always crippled because of this. The second kit was a large tom with a muddy brown pelt and big paws, whom Kestrelwing named Redkit, though she almost named him Mudkit because it seemed that at his current size he would be a large apprentice, and therefore would have a hard time with the Trial. The last tom kit was her pride; a small-ish tom with long legs whom she dubbed Runningkit, because she knew he would be the quickest of the litter. He was a light tabby.
Though Runningkit seemed like he would be the pride of the litter, it was Redkit who took over in the Nursery. He was the perfect leader, even from his kithood. he would simply scare kits into obediance with his large paws, and could appear next to any cat and scare the livig daylights out of them. Runningkit was just the pride, and he made a good deputy with his clever mind. In the end, Leafkit died. Even before they were three moons old, Leafkit's lungs and heart gave up and she died in the medicine den.
Runningkit ended up being the one who grew quickest, and was soon the largest kit in the Nursery, but still had long legs. Redkit grew much slower, and soon he was smaller than the next oldest litter. But his legs were growing fast, putting him out of proportion from what her mother had pictured he would be. Once they were made apprentices, Runningpaw was the biggest, but had long legs, while Redpaw was small and had long legs and wide paws. Runningpaw's mentor was a brown tom cat called Lightningstep, since he was on of the quickest TimberClanners at the time, and Redpaw was given to a brave warrior called Whitefur.
Redpaw was an excelent apprentice, eventhough his ability to turn up unexpectedly did scare Whitefur. He was always on top of everything, and since he was good at hiding himself he would eavesdrop on the mentors discussing their apprentices and what their activities for the day would be, so he was always prepared. Runningpaw just did whatever, and was so unenthusiastic about apprentice duties that he was punished very often.
---
The dawn sun was creeping over the trees when Lightningstep and Whitefur came to outside the Apprentice's den together. Lightningstep led the way, and both warriors padded through the shadows towards their apprentices. While Lightningstep was proding Runningpaw's shoulder and speaking loudly into his ear, Whitefur was having a hard time finding Redpaw. When Lightningstep had finally succeeded in waking Runningpaw, Whitefur followed them out into the camp clearing, telling Lightningstep about how she was going to punish Redpaw when she found him. But they were all surprised to see that Redpaw was already sitting a few tail-lengths away from the den, and his pelt was already groomed! Once the look of shock had left his face, Whitefur smirked at Lightningstep about how superior his apprentice was acting.
As they made their way into the forest, Lightningstep began explaining what they were meant to be doing. "We'll want to test exactly how quick you are righ now, having just been made apprentices, but first turn aound and close your eyes and count to 60." Redpaw obeyed immediately.
But Runningpaw was still grumpy after being woken up so early. "I don't see why I have to," he grumbled, but was immediatly silenced by a sharp whack to the head, delivered by Lightningstep. "When you can dodge blows like that, then maybe you won't have to, but for now, do as you're told." Runningpaw, sill grumbling silently under his breath turned around and closed his eyes, and Redpaw couldn't help but smiling as though he knew what was coming.
After the allouted time, Redpaw and Runningpaw turned around and found that their mentors were taunting them from two trees, both a good distance away and opposite eachother. Redpaw, knowing immediatly what was expected of him, bounded across the forest floor, sticking to the parts that would hide him best, and shot up the tree. Once he was sitting beside his mentor, Whitefur looked around, and, after the look of terrified shock passed, seemed really impressed and pleased. Runningpaw, after watching his brother, tried to do the same but was always getting himself caught in the thick underbrush. Lightningstep was not pleased. "A warrior uses his size and pelt color to his advantaage, and does not try to use a method that might not work for him."
Of course, Redpaw realized that Lightningstep was only saying this because he was embarressed that Whitefur's apprentice was doing better than his own.
When it was finally time for their Trial, Redpaw was by far the best. His size and long legs made it easy for him to be fast and also duck around things and out of the way, while his ability to stay hidden kept the Overseer from finding him. He finished quickly and was given the warrior name Rednight. Runningpaw took a bit longer, and was nearly caught, but in the end he made it and was given the name Runningheart.
Both toms were very happy and proud by their victory, but Rednight was the proudest of all. He immediately began taking a lot of duties on his shoulders, helping the deputy and bringing in the most fresh-kill he could, while also earning his first apprentice, Harepaw. He was a jumpy, light brown tom cat. But by the time Rednight was fnished with him, Harefoot was more than ready to be a warrior. After this, Rednight was granted the position of Overseer, and he caught the first apprentice that he tried. Then, he was given a second apprentice, Fernpaw, and soon after the deputy, Brackenstorm, died in battle. Rednight was named deputy.
Runningheart was less enthusiastic, as he always was, and was often caught by his brother (when Rednight became deputy) while he was laying around, gnawing on bones and prey. Runningheart did earn one apprentice, Squirrelpaw, who failed the trial the first time. Though Squirrelpaw (Harefoot's brother) failed at first, no one hated him for it. They all knew that it was simply because his mentor rarely trained him. The second time he passed and was named Squirreltail, but many warriors think that his success was only because the Overseer felt sorry for him. The Overseer, incidently, was Rednight himself, who knew better than anyone how aweful a warrior his brother was.
Rednight was a wonderful deputy, every cat in the Clan respected him. Soon, Shiningstar was on her last life. everyone knew it, and she became very ill in leafbare, dying of Blackcough. Rednight traveled to the Stone Wall to receive his nine lives and his name. He returned as Redstar, a leader who would become legendary.
Redstar has a mate, Soaringfeather, who gave birth to three kits, Sparrowcry, Rippedpelt, and Aspenleaf. Sparrowcry was killed by a badger, and Rippedpelt died of blackcough, leaving Aspenleaf as the last living cat from his litter. Soaringfeather is now in the Nursery again with four kits this time; Nightkit, Lionkit, Stonekit, and Bramblekit.
Redstar and Runningheart were told about their ScarClan father when they were kits, and they have been careful to keep it hidden. Redstar has always felt ashamed by his half-Clan heritage, and his mother had always made him feel less important as a kit because Runningheart was so much faster. But now, after he has been made Leader, he looks up at the stars some nights defiantly and says to her in his mind, who's your pride now? Definately not Runningheart! And it gives him great satisfaction to know that he proved his mother's words wrong.
